In 2021, the Nile Basin Discourse (NBD) program, with the support of the CIWA Program, empowered women and youth to become resilient Climate Change Champions. This training had a major positive effect on the lives of its participants, as exemplified by the story of Asia Namusoke. Asia found her training inspiring, prompting her to create small, but smart innovations that are transforming the lives of the women and youth in her low-income community on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda.

CIWA has created more than 10 explainer videos and podcasts in English and French, including about CIWA’s social inclusion perspective; GDEs in the Sahel region; water security in Lake Chad Basin; the protection of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area, the Cubango-Okavango Basin, and the riparian ecosystem of the Senegal-Mauritanian Aquifer Basin; and water quality issues in Lake Victoria Basin.

Every year, water experts, policymakers, and stakeholders meet in Stockholm to discuss topics such as water management, climate change, and sustainable development, aiming to accelerate action towards achieving water security and resilience. This year’s topic focused on innovation at a time of unprecedented challenges, aiming to rethink how we manage water.
