The Nile’s Next Generation

Summary

The Nile Civil Society for Climate Resilience (NCSCR) project, launched in early 2025, builds citizen-led environmental monitoring and nature-based solutions capacity in key sub-basins, turning grassroots data into evidence that can shape major water investments—ensuring they are inclusive and climate-resilient. It works across three components: community engagement and monitoring, stakeholder platforms for women and youth, and project management toward NBD’s long-term financial independence. In November 2025, eight young professionals from across the Nile Basin — Burundi, DRC, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Tanzania — have been embedded in communities on the frontlines of climate change through the NBD’s Nile Civil Society for Climate Resilience (NCSCR) project.
